Diploma in Funeral Directing
The National Diploma
in Funeral Directing is a fifteen-month modular programme designed to
produce graduates who are able to arrange, organise and direct a funeral
with efficiency and sensitivity.
Programme
Content
Students learn how to carry out all the procedures necessary
for the successful arrangement and direction of a funeral, as well as
the administrative tasks related to a funeral. In Behavioural Science,
student learn about psychological, social and cultural behaviour related
to death and dying and develop the interpersonal skills needed for dealing
with the bereaved.
Nature of
the Programme
Students attend modules at WelTec and between modules are required to
undertake specific supervised learning experiences at their place of employment
which are recorded in a log book. Students must also present case reports
which detail the manner on which funerals have been arranged and directed
by the student. A final clinical module provides opportunity for reflective
practice. East student must have a qualified supervisor during the clinical
experience moduels. The supervisor must be an experienced, suitably qualfieid
Funeral Director, who is able to evaluate and assist the student during
practical experiences.
